Laura Howell has been an educator for more than 30 years, spending most of her career at Georgetown Day School in Washington, DC. In 2021 she left the classroom and began working with students individually and in small groups to support their social learning as a social coach. When Laura works with students from pre-k through middle school, she strives to make the rules of the complicated social world more explicit and to increase their social awareness and ability to positively connect with others.

What is your education/training?
I received my BA in psychology and Masters in early childhood education from Tufts University. I also completed the clinical training through SocialThinking.com.
What are examples of concepts you work on with your students?
Making and keeping friends, working with others, conversation strategies, flexibility and compromise, problem solving, and perspective taking... to name a few!
Where do you do this work?
I run groups and see individual clients at GDS, District Kids, Amore Learning and will push into schools as needed.
When you are not "socializing" with your students, what do you like to do?
I like to do yoga, go for long walks, and try new restaurants! I also love to spend time with my family in my hometown, San Diego, CA.
